Summer release of Java PDF library adds rendering, security and interactive features enhancements

Qoppa PDF Library Launcher IconAtlanta, GA June 30 2014 – Qoppa Software’s summer release of Java® PDF component and library products delivers many rendering, security, annotations and interactive forms improvements.

“We’ve worked on hundreds of items for this release, refining and enhancing our existing features, in order to maintain our lead in providing the most solid and comprehensive PDF libraries and visual components available in Java.” says Gerald Holmann, Qoppa Software President.

As usage of PDF increases, the documents encountered are getting bigger and more sophisticated, pushing the limits of the features defined in the PDF format. Customers need to rely on PDF solutions that are able to process all documents.

Qoppa has implemented new processing of JPEG images (not relying on imageio), making it possible to read and display “infinite size” JPEGs within PDF documents, without any memory limitation.

When it comes to security, PDF documents have also become more sophisticated.  The new permissions manager supports and enforces the 3 levels of security defined in the PDF format, in an abstracted, simplified way, making it easy to work with encrypted documents (password permissions), certified documents (DocMDP permissions), and reader-enabled documents (Usage Rights permissions).

Rendering and interactive tools were refined in Qoppa’s Java PDF visual components. It is easier than ever to markup documents and fill interactive forms in the components’ intuitive and user-friendly interface. Thanks to new on-demand loading of annotations, the first page of PDF documents is rendered fast, even when documents contain a large number of comments. New quick properties and alignment toolbars are available for fast editing and positioning of annotations. The new undo function helps users reverse any mistake. A smoothing algorithm was implemented to draw even, regular curves and lines when handwriting with the pencil annotation. Finally, form filling was improved with support for additional JavaScript functions and improvements in form field editing.

Qoppa Software announces PDF Studio 9 with Interactive Form Designer, Advanced Redaction and PDF/A Conversion

logo for PDF Studio desktop PDF editorMay 2 2014 – Qoppa Software, a leading producer of PDF software, announces version 9 of PDF Studio, their powerful, easy to use PDF editing software for Windows, Mac and Linux. PDF Studio 9 adds an interactive form designer, an advanced redaction feature, conversion to PDF/A and numerous digital signatures and annotations enhancements.

PDF Studio 9 adds many advanced features for business users.” says Gerald Holmann, Qoppa Software President. “The enhancements in version 9 make PDF Studio ready to deploy to the enterprise and integrate into document workflows, from creation to archiving, through revision and approval process. Our goal is to provide an all-in-one, affordable PDF solution for all businesses and organizations, whether they are running Windows, Mac or Linux.”

Form Editor Toolbar

The new form designer in PDF Studio 9 allows users to create sophisticated interactive PDF forms. Businesses of all sizes can streamline paper-based workflows by using PDF forms to receive electronic data from partners, customers and employees. JavaScript is supported for form fields formatting, validation and calculations.

Redacting text and images in a PDF document

The advanced redaction function helps remove sensitive information from PDF documents prior to publication or release.  Redaction annotations are first added to cover confidential areas on page, then applied as a second step, or “burnt-in” into the document, to permanently delete the underlying text, images or shapes.

For long-term storage and archival of documents, governments, publishers and bigger organizations are converting PDF files to PDF/A. It is a strict subset of the PDF format which helps ensure that documents will render the same in the future as when they were saved. PDF Studio 9 provides PDF/A compliance verification as well as the ability to convert existing files to PDF/A format.

PDF Studio 9 adds various enhancements around digital signatures with new support for certifying signatures, time-stamps, Windows and Mac certificate managers, the latest AES 256 encryption, and other security features such as enforcing and clearing usage right enablement, and accessing  server protected textbooks.

With version 9, it is also easier than ever to review and comment PDF documents using PDF Studio 9’s new quick properties and alignment toolbars, and user-friendly color picker.

Summer release of Java PDF library adds PDF OCR, digital signature enhancements including latest AES 256 encryption

Atlanta, GA August 12 2013 – Qoppa Software’s summer release of Java® PDF component and library products delivers a new OCR module, digital signature enhancements including latest AES 256 algorithm and many other improvements.

Qoppa Software is pleased to announce a new Java PDF OCR library sdk which supports all Latin-based languages including English, German, French, and Spanish and is available for Windows®, Mac OS X® and Linux®, in 32 and 64 bit. This is a clean, production-level Java integration of the well-known Tesseract engine and Qoppa’s own PDF rendering and editing technology.

This release also contains many digital signature enhancements including PDF certifying signatures, often used in document workflows to approve documents before publication. A certifying signature is the first digital signature applied to a PDF document and allows specifying what subsequent changes may be made to the certified document.

Appearance of digital signatures was improved to allow validation of multiple signatures. Since the PDF format does not inherently support multiple digital signatures, Qoppa’s PDF engine is parsing for the content added after a signature and identifying which changes are acceptable and which changes invalidate the signature.

The new AES 256 encryption algorithm (R=6) has been implemented and allows encrypting or decrypting PDF documents with the highest level of security available. This algorithm is defined in the upcoming PDF 2.0 specifications and is compatible with Adobe® Acrobat® X, XI and above.

Finally, our PDF viewing components now offer a flexible navigation API, allowing developers to customize navigation within a PDF document or across PDF documents to fit their document workflow.

“Our goal is to continue to offer the most comprehensive PDF technology available in Java.  We are excited to present our new PDF OCR solution. This is an affordable, integrated solution to recognize text in PDF documents from Java applications on Windows, Mac and Linux, in a J2EE server environment, or on the client side.” says Gerald Holmann, Qoppa Software President.

The new release adds many other improvements and internal fixes.  For more details, please visit the links below:

qPDF’s redesigned file browser is a powerful tool to find and organize PDF documents on the go. Files can be opened directly from Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, edited on the device and then saved back to the cloud, in a single tap. It is now as easy to work with cloud files as it is with local files and users have the freedom to choose their preferred cloud storage. Form Fill View Mode: Intuitive, Per Page

The Fill Form view has been totally redesigned to make filling PDF forms on the go as user-friendly as possible. The bookmarks pane, allowing navigation within PDF documents using bookmarks, outlines, comments, and search results, was made expandable so the lists can be viewed in full screen.  This intuitive tablet interface was also copied over to phones so that all users would now have the benefit of the search pane as well as easier access to bookmarks, outline, and comments tabs.

As usual, the newly implemented features have a consistent, streamlined look that closely follows the Holo design principles. qPDF Notes and qPDF Viewer are tablet-optimized so they look great on all size devices, from small phones to large tablets.

Finally, all labels have been internationalized in German, so the app is now available in  5 languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Spring release of Java PDF libraries adds new PDF editing component, JavaScript, time-stamping of digital signatures

Atlanta, GA April 11 2013 – Qoppa Software’s new spring release of Java PDF components and libraries delivers a new PDF editing and redacting component as well as support for JavaScript and time-stamping of digital signatures.

Qoppa Software is pleased to announce jPDFEditor, its new PDF editing component, which supports all the rendering, annotating and form filling features found in Qoppa’s other PDF components, plus more powerful editing features:

  • Content Editing: the content editing tool allows users to modify the content of  PDF documents:
    • Copy, delete, edit, move text
    • Copy, delete, move, resize images
    • Copy, delete, edit, move, resize shapes, and paths
    • Work with single or multiple text, image, or path objects
  • Redaction:  the redaction feature lets users permanently remove sensitive information from PDF documents:
    • Add redaction annotations to cover an area on a page. The area can contain any PDF objects such as text, image, or shape objects.
    • “Burn” the redaction annotations to remove the underlying content that intersects with the area redacted.
  • Access to jPDFProcess API: jPDFEditor comes packaged with Qoppa’s jPDFProcess library, providing access to a rich API to further manipulate PDF documents programmatically.

“We expect our new PDF component, jPDFEditor, to be of great interest to document management professionals wishing to PDF-enable their DMS, ECM, and BPM systems. Developers and integrators can now deploy a powerful PDF editor in their own java and web applications and be reassured that they have the most advanced Java PDF technology and user interface available on the market.” says Gerald Holmann, Qoppa Software President.

The new release also adds JavaScript support to Qoppa’s Swing PDF rendering components jPDFViewer and jPDFNotes, making it easier to fill interactive forms with features such as:

  • Form field calculations to automatically compute the value of given fields from other fields.
  • Form field validation to prevent invalid data entry and ensure that all required fields are filled in.
  • Form field formatting to facilitate the capture of special fields such as dates, social security numbers, postal codes, phone numbers, etc.

Time-stamping of digital signatures was added to fulfill the needs of Qoppa’s customers as many security standards now require this added level of security to encrypt administrative and legal documents. With the new 2013R1 release, it is possible to apply and verify PDF Digital signatures with Server timestamps authenticated by a trusted, independent authority.  Time stamps are essentially encapsulated in another certificate signed by the authority which contains both the customer’s and the time-stamp server’s signatures.

The new release adds many other improvements and internal fixes.  For more details, please visit the links below:

New v3.0 Android qPDF apps deliver text reflow, javascript and whole new look!

ATLANTA – November 1st, 2012 – Qoppa Software, a leading producer of PDF solutions, is proud to announce release 3.0 of its Android PDF apps, qPDF Notes – PDF Reader and Annotating App and qPDF Viewer – Free PDF Reader. This release includes major new features including a text reflow mode, support for Javascript in interactive forms, and a whole new look.

Use text reflow for a great reading experience

Text Reflow Mode: The text reflow feature allows for more effective reading of ebooks, magazines, and articles while on the go. Text reflow shows a text-only view of a PDF document and automatically reflows the content to fit the screen width as users zoom in and out. Font size can be increased or decreased according to reading preferences. This view provides an exceptional reading experience on smaller Android phones and tablets by eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling.

Javascript Support: The added support for Javascript in version 3.0 greatly improves user experience when filling interactive PDF forms by implementing:

  • form field calculations to automatically compute the value of given fields from other fields.
  • form field validation to prevent users from entering invalid data and ensuring that all required data is filled in.
  • form field formatting to facilitate the capture of special format fields such as dates, social security, phone numbers, etc…

A New Look: The user interface was reinvented to accommodate the many functions offered in the app and give users quick and easy access to core features. The Action bar was changed to add the following menus:

  • “File” menu to open, save, or send/share files.
  •  “View” menu to change to text reflow mode, go to the outline / bookmarks / comments pane, go to page, zoom, and lock the navigation overlay.
  • “Document” menu to add new pages, flatten annotations and fields, or go to the fast form fill view.

In addition, all colors and icons were redesigned for a streamlined, sleek new look consistent with the overall Android Holo style.

Add Image

Add Images: Version 3.0 adds the ability to easily add images / pictures as annotations onto PDF documents or add them to interactive PDF form image fields. Images can come from the device, cloud services or directly from the camera, simplifying the daily routine of professionals such as home inspectors or insurance agents when creating inspection reports.

To celebrate qPDF Notes’ new release, the app is offered at 50% discount through December. Users who are currently evaluating qPDF Notes Demo are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to upgrade to qPDF Notes Full Version.
